And obviously the bosses are tough as well. Be careful of the large plant monsters and the jumping frog creatures as well, those do huge quick damage. Another issue might be the large moving blocks, as getting crushed by these will kill you instantly. You can roll your grenade across them to trigger them before dashing, or simply walk on and off the corner quickly. The most common cause of death is likely the crystal fields, as getting hit by one can knock you into a another, which will combo and take out four or more health quickly. If you can get those and then make a beeline to the boss, you'll save quite a bit of time and fighting, avoiding the later areas of each section. The game has four they expect you to find in each section, and four that are more hidden but often in the beginning of each section. You can also take the shortest route to the bosses, which is often finding the first four modules (see the Diamonds Are Forever achievement). Buy the health pack upgrades in town as soon as you can so you can carry more, and avoid fighting whenever possible. If for any reason you're out of health packs and low on health, quit to the main menu and reload, then go in search of health packs as they will all respawn. Make sure you're never below three health bars, as many enemies can do two damage in a single hit. Unless you attempt to do this on your first playthrough, you should be familiar with all the enemy attacks and hazards (those crystals in the West section especially, and any moving block sections - these can crush you for an instant death), so you'll be well prepared to avoid any deaths. If you can dash past enemies to progress to a new room and move the story, do so. If for any reason you're out of health packs and low on health, quit to the main menu and reload to get your health back, then go in search of health packs. Simply complete the game to earn Masochist.įor this playthrough, you should be familiar with all the enemy attacks and hazards (those crystals in the West section especially, and any moving blocks that can crush you for an instant death), so you'll be well prepared to avoid any deaths. However, there is no penalty for death aside from losing a bit of progress (the game only saves when you enter a new area - look for the icon in the bottom right of the screen). Instead, you only have two health bars and many enemies will do 2+ damage in a single hit, so you'll likely die a lot. New Game Plus is unlocked after beating the game, and is not a traditional NG+ where you are all powerful and breeze through the game. Then you can begin to work on all the collecting, and any miscellaneous achievements that you didn't manage to get during the story. There is nothing missable, and you can continue to play after beating the final boss by choosing "continue" from the main menu. From there, your main focus at first should just be to enjoy the game and complete it. If you're not going for the One Shot achievement, immediately walk off the ledge when the game starts to die for Nothing's Easy, Now is it? and then let the Drifter idle for ten minutes to get Meditation. I'd suggest not worrying about it and just doing a speed run as a third playthrough though. When you come back into the game, any health packs in the area will have respawned, so you can fill back up. If you want to try and do that at the same time, you'll need to be extra careful and likely pause/quit whenever you're low on health and out of health packs. You should get all but two achievements during this playthrough, unless you somehow manage to beat the game without dying. However, once you get through the basics, it is very fun game with rewarding combat. While the art and color palette are beautiful, this can make the game a bit confusing in the beginning since you won't know what everything is, or if something is necessarily an area to walk on or not. The story is presented through the imagery alone. There are literally no words in the game. Hyper Light Drifter is an Action RPG presented in a minimalistic style.
